7 Things to Know About Iktus

Up and coming Filipino Christian pop rock band Iktus has been making quite a noise lately. In just a couple of years since their debut as a band, they have already achieved various feats in the OPM industry. Here are more nuggets of trivia about the group:

Iktus

1. Iktus is a four-piece rock band hailing from Los Banos, Laguna. The band’s genre is alternative pop rock. Interestingly, the band members share common religious views and the reason they get along well when writing music.

2. The band name “Iktus” comes from the Greek word “Ichtus”, meaning fish. It symbolizes the group’s identity as a Christian band.

3. Three of the band members are siblings – Andrei Panaligan on bass; CJ Panaligan on vocals and Andrew Panaligan on drums. Completing the awesome four is Augusto Mendoza, the lead guitarist of the band.

4. The band draws musical influences from Rico Blanco, Eraserheads, Sugarfree, Paramore, Flyleaf, Newfound Glory, and Hillsong United.

5. Iktus started to make their own name in the OPM industry when they won the inter-band competition Sun Broadband Quest Grand Finals in 2013. Out of the 145 bands who joined the competition, Iktus dazzled the judges and the crowd during the competition with their rendition of Yeng Constantino’s “Pag-ibig” and their original song “Wag Muna”.

6. In 2014, Iktus released their first EP (extended play) under MCA Music Inc. The EP is composed of 8 tracks, featuring the carrier single “IMY”. It’s available on iTunes, as well as in record stores nationwide.

7. On Wish 107.5’s first anniversary, the band performed inside the Wish Bus and performed their single “Mahal Na Kita”, giving us a personal preview of their awesome musicality as a group.
