Former Rivermaya vocalist, Jason Fernandez has been rocking the OPM industry for quite a long time now. Whether with a band, or as a solo artist, he has proven himself a capable artist. What has he been up to lately? Here are seven things we should know about Jason Fernandez:
1. Jason Fernandez served as the lead vocalist of the beloved OPM band, following Rico Blanco, after he won the reality television search “Bagong Liwanag”. He was 17 years old back then.
2. In 2011, he decided to leave after four years with the band, citing musical differences as one of the main reasons for his departure.
3. But even before this mainstream appearance, Jason had already been a part of an indie band. In his younger days, he was a member of two groups – a metal band and an acoustic group.
4. When Jason left Rivermaya, he used much of his time to look for his father whom he never knew growing up. His father was a Cypriot, a combination of Turkish and Greek descent. Fortunately, he was able to meet his father. Jason shared how the two of them reconnected and how his father said that he was proud of him.
5. After somewhat finding the missing puzzle piece in his life, Jason came back to the music scene. In 2013, he released an original album entitled “Panimula”. It was inspired by all the things he had gone through for the past years.
6. Jason also stood out in the Voice of the Philippines Season 2 as a part of Coach Apl d Ap’s team. During his blind audition, Coach Bamboo, who was also a former Rivermaya vocalist, was stunned to see him.
7. Jason played a huge part of the launch of Wish 107.5 in August 2014. He sang the station’s jingle and even joined the mob performances organized by the station as a preview to its official sign-in.
