7 Things to Know About Juan Karlos Labajo
With his charming voice and personality, 14-year old Juan Karlos Labajo immediately entranced the Filipino audience when he first appeared on the blind auditions of the Voice Kids Season 1. Behind his bubbly disposition, Juan Karlos has a heart-warming story to tell before he gained the fame he has now. Take a look at his story though these 7 things you need to know about him.
1. Juan Karlos, or JK, was 13 years old when he entered for the Voice Kids. With his charismatic rendition of Adam Sandler’s “I Wanna Grow Old with You”, he made it through the auditions, under Coach Bamboo. He won 2nd-runner up during the finals.
2. Throughout the competition, we were given a glimpse of the life he lived as a child. He was raised in Consolacion, Cebu by his Filipino mother and German father. His mother died in 2013, not long before he auditioned for the Voice Kids.
3. JK did not particularly have an amazing childhood. He experienced bullying because of his Caucasian looks. Also, due to unfortunate living conditions, he got into collecting junk to help out his family in their financial troubles.
4. In spite all these, JK’s life has took a festive turn. After his victory in the Voice Kids, he was given a lot of opportunities in show business. A scholarship at ETON International School was also granted to him as part of his winnings.
5. Recently, JK has also showed us his talent in acting. He played supporting roles in popular Filipino television series, and he received positive comments for his works.
6. In 2015, JK released his self-titled debut album under MCA Music, which includes six original songs composed by Filipino singer-songwriters Jensen Gomez, Brad Go, and Kennard Faraon.
7. JK collided with another JK, Wish Jock Jelly Kiss, when he performed during a Roadshow guesting. He sang a cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Photograph” and his single “Para Sa’yo”.
In the upcoming Wish 107.5 Music Awards this 2016, JK is nominated in four categories – Best WIShclusive Performance by a Young Artist for “Photograph”, Wish Ballad Song and Wish Original Song for “Para Sa’yo”, and Wish Young Artist of the Year.
