7 Things to Know About Mitoy Yonting

Before his victory in the first season of the Voice of the Philippines, Mitoy Yonting was already known as band vocalist and a veteran singer. He has joined various singing contests before attaining the success he has now. What else should we know about Mitoy? Here are 7 other things about him we should know.

1. Michael “Mitoy” Yonting was born and raised in the province of Pangasinan. At a young age, he
began joining singing competitions in his high school to showcase and hone his talent.

 
2. For his tertiary education, Mitoy took up Criminology at the Philippine College of Criminology. However, during this time, he also became part of a band. Eventually, Mitoy decided to give up his studies and focus on his singing career.

 
3. During the ‘90s, Mitoy began auditioning in singing competitions on television. Mitoy rose to popularity when he entered Eat Bulaga’s “Ikaw at Echo” segment and competed as a voice-a-like of Air Supply’s Russell Hitchcock.

 
4. After this breakthrough, Mitoy pursued his show business career and became a host and comedian. However, this was only for a short period because Mitoy went back to his first love which is music.

 
5. In 1997, he and his brother, Mylo, formed the band called The Draybers. The band became known here in the Philippines and abroad.

 
6. Mitoy’s band travelled around the world for international gigs. It was in one of their shows in Japan where he met his wife, Merly.

 
7. Mitoy released his debut album entitled “Hanggang Wakas” under MCA Music. The album includes his hit single “Pinaikot-ikot”.

 
Mitoy promoted his “Hanggang Wakas” album during a Roadshow guesting. He also rendered an exclusive performance of Florante’s “Handog”, which is also included in the album. This earned Mitoy two nominations in the upcoming Wish 107.5 Music Awards – Best WISHclusive Performance by a Male Artist and Wish Male Artist of the Year. Vote for him here.
