7 Things to Know About Sitti

When we hear the term ‘Bossa Nova’, one name immediately pops up in our heads – that is, Sitti. It was early 2000s when she began her journey as a bossa singer in the country, let’s take a look back on how her career thrived and continuously blooms until now. Here’s a list of 7 things to know about the Philippines’s Queen of Bossa Nova.

1. Though she is of Samal and Tausug descent, Sitti Katrina Baiddin Navarro was born in Las Pinas, Manila. She identifies herself as a Jama Mapun, one of the Sama-Bajau subgroups in Tawi-Tawi.

2. Sitti was an Iskolar ng Bayan. In 2005, she graduated from University of the Philippines Diliman with a degree in Business Economics.

3. Prior to entering the music scene, Sitti used to join beauty pageants. In the Miss Travel Girl Pageant 2001, she earned the title Miss Visayas. While in the search for Miss Silka, she was awarded as Miss Friendship and Best in Swimwear.

4. Originally, Sitti aspired of becoming a TV host. But her dreams took a detour when she won in MTV Philippines’s MTV Supahstar: D’ Super Search in 2004. This marked as her break in the OPM industry for she was granted a recording contract after the competition.

5. Sitti’s debut album “Café Bossa” was launched in 2006; while her latest album is called “Bossa Love” and was released in early 2014.

6. Sitti’s dream of hosting was not entirely shattered when her music career paved a way for her to also take chances in this path. She did hosting stints in some television programs Pinoy Big Brother Season 2, Pinoy Dream Academy, and Travel Time.

7. Sitti also got into acting. She appeared in the 2009 independent film “Squalor”, and as well as in some television soap operas.

In her more than a decade of reign in the local music scene, Sitti has already achieved so much – from various hit songs and a bunch of albums, to gigs in hosting and acting. Amidst all these, she also fared to find her life partner and husband, Joey Ramirez, whom she married in May 2015. We are nothing but happy for Sitti for all these blessings that have come her way, and we think she deserves more.
