Arnel Pineda shares story behind WMA-nominated original ‘Owe’
With “Owe,” one of the nominated songs vying under the Wish Original Song of the Year by a Male Artist in the 2nd Wish 107.5 Music Awards (WMA), Journey frontman Arnel Pineda bares his vulnerability as an imperfect man, expressing his gratitude to his wife through a heart-rending ballad.
But according to Pineda, who also earned a nod for the categories Wish Male Artist of the Year and Best WISHclusive Collaboration (with Morissette for “Secret Love Song”), the track can actually be for everybody.
“It’s for people, like me, who are imperfect but are still being loved by their wife, their mother or sister. Regardless of the mistakes that we commit, we’re still being accepted and loved by the women around us,” he shared during a Roadshow guesting on December 8.
The song is part of Pineda’s solo album, “AP,” under Imagen Records, which is due for launching on the 17th.

Apart from “Owe,” he also rendered another cut from his latest effort, “Hiling.” An original which he also dedicates to his wife, the song was actually first written back in 2004.
“I wrote it wayback 2004. My wife and I were together. You know that perfect moment when you just feel the love you have for each other and then you feel contented? You’re not asking for anything else — just each other’s company.”
Meanwhile, asked about his WMA nominations, the 49-year-old singer took the time to thank the station for recognizing his other side — Arnel Pineda as a solo act. For the past nine years, the Philippine pride has been touring around the globe as the lead vocalist of the legendary rock band, Journey.
He also thanked his supporters for “giving [him] the chance to release an album that showcases [his] side that he hasn’t really shown for the last couple of years.” He last released a solo self-titled record in 1999.
As for his ultimate wish, he enthused that he wanted to tour his upcoming effort with his local bandmates.
Pineda’s Roadshow setlist also included WISHclusive performances of “Pain in my Heart,” “Ewan Ko Ba” and “Please Forgive Me.”
Voting for the 2nd Wish 107.5 Music Awards is open until 12 noon of January 16, 2017. The event’s culmination show will be staged on January 16 at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
