Jason Fernandez on his WMA nomination, Wish 107.5’s role in promoting Filipino artistry

Even before day one, former Rivermaya frontman Jason Fernandez has already lent his charismatic vocals to Wish 107.5. That was when a month before the station’s stellar launching on August 10, 2014, flash mobs were staged around the metro to promote “Ano’ng Wish Mo?,” an advocacy that aimed to gather wishes, the most heartfelt of which were granted when the newest all-hits station was introduced in the local FM broadcast arena.

Fernandez then sang the campaign’s jingle.

After over two years and a number of guestings on Wish, Fernandez is back with a grateful heart as he is nominated in the 2nd Wish 107.5 Music Awards (WMA) for Best WISHclusive performance by a Male Artist for his acoustic rendition of the Rivermaya classic, “Ulan.”

When he graced the December 8 episode of Roadshow, the former The Voice Season 2 contender shared that the WMA nomination he got is more of a “bonus.”

“Kung nominated ka, malaking bagay na ‘yun. ‘Yung mga nangyayari dito, ginagawa lang naming mga performer yung dapat naming ibigay sa tao para mapasaya sila. So, the rest, yung nominations and all, plus points and bonus na lang.”

(“If an artist is nominated, it’s already a big deal. Whatever happens here, we, as performers, are just doing it to give entertainment. The rest, the nominations and all, are just a bonus.”)

Fernandez, who recently dabbled into theater acting with his lead role in the award-winning musical “American Idiot,” further admitted that he is always excited to perform on board the Wish 107.5 Bus, commending its concept as an avenue for Filipino artists to highlight their talent.

“Lagi akong excited kapag iniimbitahan ako ng Wish, lalo na’t nag-uupload kayo ng videos. Kasi kaming mga artista, inaabangan din naman yung mga performance namin dito, dahil talagang pinaghahandaan namin, nag-iisip kami ng magagandang pyesa.”

(“I’m always excited whenever I get to be invited to guest on Wish, especially now that you are uploading the videos of our performances. Actually, we, artists, also look forward to watching them, because we have really prepared for it, we think of good pieces that we can render.”)

During his Roadshow stint, he delivered a heartwarming cover of Coldplay’s “The Scientist.”

His newest WISHclusive is one of the most recent additions to the roster of videos uploaded on the Wish 107.5 YouTube Channel, which is the country’s fastest-growing channel in 2016.
